Libratone have enabled airplay 2 on the Zipp.

Previously the Zipp worked fine with the common parameters. After the
update, the Zipp plays at max volume for a few seconds, then the audio
cuts out ... nasty!

Fortunately, the Zipp works with the upnp bridge.

Not looking good! Tuneblade fails to play, iTunes on Win shows the

No way to downgrade ... so don't allow it to update!

It works with upnpbridge if all goes awol! Why can't they offer a
choice for airplay?

Replying to myself, sorry.
Seems using sq2r in a VM was a bad idea…
I've since run sq2r on a W10 laptop, and everything works flawlessly.
To avoid running sq2r on a remote host, I've then installed Airplay
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/lms-to-raop/dev/repo-sf.xml
As squeeze2raop-x86-64-static is not a native FreeBSD binary, I ran
brandelf -t Linux squeeze2raop-x86-64-static then loaded linux64.ko
I've looked up for a process using port 36853 with no luck.
So I guess I'm missing something but I don't know what

the application is crashing. It's impossible at that stage to know
what's happening

Seems the socket differences between Linux & FreeBSD could be the
issue.
I've ktraced squeeze2raop-x86-64-static and it seems that it tries to
bind twice to 0.0.0.0:5353 the second occurrence causes the crash.
I'm not a seasoned C programmer, so I'm afraid I can't fix this on my
own.

My local dns/ntp server is a x86-64 box running OpenWRT 17.01.4, and
squeeze2raop-x86-64-static runs fine since I've reconfigured unbound &
nsd to use an other port than 5353 for local zones.

Could an OpenWRT package be considered ? (I'm fine with manual
installation but it could help other people use this neat tool on their
appliances)

Currently I don't feel like adding new packages, I already have too much
to do. Having said that, I think I know what your issue is, it's about
the SO_REUSEPORT socket option which I use under apple and freebsd (of
course) and not under linux. I'll see if I can enable it in general

LMS UI.

Can you tell me a bit more about your configuration? There are no
changes in 0.4.5.3 except that I've moved all my projects to
cross-compiling for OSX, Solaris and FreeBSD which saves me a ton of
time (all other platform where already cross-compiled). OSX was the only
non cross-compiled version for the AirPlay bridge, so unless you're on
MacOS, there should be no change

that they worked in perfect sync with your plugin with no tuning
required. Yesterday I noticed that they no longer played in sync
(regardless of the sync with the SB or between themselves). That's when
I noticed in the web interface that the plugin had been upgraded and
figured it was too much of a coincidence that they no longer played
properly and the plugin was updated.

I will try and pull some logs tonight.

container.
I unplugged all WX-010s last night and then assigned static IPs etc... I
then deleted the AirBrdige config and started from scratch. The problem
seems to be solved. I will play around again tonight extensively and see
if the problem reoccurs.

Off topic... I have to say I really like the WX-010s but they can be
frustrating to use. The MC software often gets confused when sync'd
players cannot be found, controlling the system from an Android and iPad
often shows different rooms being available etc... In theory it should
be great as it does everything I require; Airplay, DLNA, Bluetooth and
internet radio... but it's not quite there. If these problems persist I
will send the speakers back and probably move to Sonos which I've heard
is much more robust.

Since you own both the Yamaha and the Riva how would you rate them
against each other? The riva offers chromecast which is a big plus.
However it doesn’t appear to have net radio access and the big one in my
opinion is lack of an Ethernet port. Be interested in your thoughts!

No, not really. This can happen due to WiFi connection issues in your
network (overload, interferer, delays)

I recently bought 5 Yamaha WX-010s to add to my SB Radio. I was amazed
that they worked in perfect sync with your plugin with no tuning
required. Yesterday I noticed that they no longer played in sync
(regardless of the sync with the SB or between themselves). That's when
I noticed in the web interface that the plugin had been upgraded and
figured it was too much of a coincidence that they no longer played
properly and the plugin was updated.
I will try and pull some logs tonight.

I've tried my wx-10 and the MacOS version which is the only one where
there could have been a change. I did not see a synchronization problem

Squeeze2raop is already running with debug enabed, and does not say

When avahi-daemon is stopped I have the same crash, no changes at all.
In fact I'm only trying to have an easy way to send a sound/music/spech
to different Airplay devices from a smartphone or from Openhab in a
batch mode at fixed times, without need of selecting the device with an
application. All my network is based on my dns domain well registered,
and I have no need of MDNS, but I know that Airplay needs it. This seems
a so difficult goal! Tried several applications and tools, but no way...
any suggestion? TY!

Nothing strange as I can see. I started with Jessie on one PI2 and then
I moved to Stretch with two separate PIs just to see if things go
better. The only thing I have is a complete management of my
name/addresses under DNS. One of the two pIs is dns server for my home
domain (int.fmal.com) that is delegated from an external public server
fmal.com. This canonical setting seems to be very difficult to manage
together with mdns, but I have several server packages running on both
PIs to manage domotic and they are all running. Only the multimedia
environment is not well tuned. I have forked-daapd as first attempt to
manage Airplay and it also show mdns problems ...

I was asking for sdebug, not debug. It's an extra level that might let
me know when the crash is happening. Otherwise, if you know how to use
gdb, I can build a version with debugging symbols. If all you want to do
is sendign from Openhab to AirPlay devices you might want to try my
raop_player application there https://github.com/philippe44/RAOP-Player.
All it does is sending an audio file. I've not really tested it for a
while, but I've updated it constantly as it uses the same core as
squeeze2raop

If all you want to do is sending from Openhab to AirPlay devices you
might want to try my raop_player application there
https://github.com/philippe44/RAOP-Player. All it does is sending an
audio file, but you need to uncompress it before to raw PCM. It's easy
to do with ffmpeg (eg) and then pipe it to raop_play. I've not really
tested it for a while, but I've updated it constantly as it uses the
same core as squeeze2raop.

This is also an info I was missing. I should read more ...

Bingo, the problem was in another area. Trying to run it by hand I saw

It works! My main problem was the missing library. Then I suppose I had
also aproblem with avahi because it was running on the same server with
dns, and the server had two addresses on the same interface. I read that
it can be a problem for arp and multicast. Thank you for you job and
your help!

This is the only airplay device not working. It is the only one on
shairport-sync

FMTP is not needed when sending raw PCM. It's only there when you send
ALAC-encoded frame. Your problem here is likely that you have not
enabled encryption

I see song info changing on the AirPlay device when I choose my own
music - with each song as a separate file - but if I play a radio stream
where I know that the original source does not have song meta data
included but it is collected out of band and sent to the LMS player ...
then song changes do not appear.
I see the name of the first track.

Example to show it is FIP from Radio France when using my plugin. Song
info changes in LMS web interface but not on the AirPlay device.

Is that expected?

Yes, I would say unfortunately and I've been hesitating a bunch of this
one. Let me explain.

- When you play your local music, every time a track is about to end,
LMS sends the request for playing the next one. It does not include
metadata, but the bridge is gathering it using CLI
- When you play a radio live stream, some stations like RP sends
metadata update using the ICY protocol every xxKBytes transmitted. LMS
gets it and displays it. The caracteristics of live radio is that they
have a remote flag set and a duration of 0. In that case, the bridge
queries LMS every 5 seconds to see if metadata update happened and it
did, it updates the AirPlay device
- Unfortunately, and I'm guilty here, with your plugin, the duration is
not 0 anymore so the metadata polling does not happen. I've tried to
guess the end of song using estimated length but it does not work very
well. I think there is a mechanism in the CLI to subscribe to changes,
but I've never used it and anyway it would force me to keep the CLI
socket open which I purposely did.

So this is the reason why you don't see updates.

I will re-think about that over the weekend to see if I can still, in
the case of remote streams, do the subscription or find out a way to
keep polling but do a better job with estimated duration (like getting
metadata at the end of the estimated duration and if they have not
changed, keep polling for N times every 5 sec until a change is seen -
there is some difficulties here around keeping an absolute / relative
time reference)

Found a way to have that work which I think is acceptable in term of
frequency of polling LMS in all cases. Look at version 0.4.6.0

To be honest, I did not check if this already was an issue, so maybe one
more time: As long as I had a single Sonos one Airplay Bridge was
working, now I have a second one and paired them via the Sonos app. I
still can see one Sonos speaker in LMS but there is no sound anymore!

It's also not possible to rename this speaker in LMS, as soon as I'm
starting playback the original name is restored.

[edit]: I just checked with my Sonos and succesfully paired a 5 and a 3
and it worked well. If the name cannot be changed it might mean that a
crash is happening. What OS / CPU do you have?

Tried it once more with 0.4.6.1 and it was working. Then I renamed the
paired Sonos speakers in LMS and it stopped working (no sound). As soon
as I'm having more time I will try I'll do some more test and will send
you logfiles

Edit: It seems that Airplay Bridge is preventing the renaming - as soon
as I'm restarting it the old names are restored (and there is no more
sound from the Sonos speakers)

But I don’t understand. The Airplay bridge does not work with Sonos,
it’s AirPlay 1 only Sonos are Airplay 2 only. Aren’t you confusing with
UPnPBridge?

Yes, obviously. I cannot test that as I have a 3 and an old 5. Any
chance that you would have another of my bridges like AirConnect that
could create the issue? Normally, airplay bridge does not recreate a SB
instance of a UPnP device that have been ‘transformed’ into an AirPlay
by airconnect...

No, I've never had AirConnect or other bridges installed. I am not at
home at the moment but could connect to my infrastructure via VPN. Which
logfiles do you need as a proof?

FMTP is not needed when sending raw PCM. It's only there when you send
ALAC-encoded frame. Your problem here is likely that you have not
enabled encryption

I installed the missing libssl1.0.0_1.0.2l-1~bpo8+1_armhf.deb and I
rebuilt shairport-sync with this configuration:

./configure --sysconfdir=/etc --with-alsa --with-pipe --with-avahi

The the shairport-sync devices are correctly handled by Airplay devices
