Discussion:
Custom Clock / SuperDateTime Help

I'm a fairly new Squeezebox owner running a Radio and a Touch connecting
to LMS 7.7.1 on a Windows 7 box. I've been using Martin Rehfeld's
Weather, Date, Time plugin because I like the fact that it a) uses
Weather Underground, and b) allows me to fetch weather from a
WUnderground user's personal weather station simply by entering that
user's code.

Recently I've been playing with SuperDateTime because it just allows
many more choices. I've been using it in conjunction with Erland's
Custom Clock/Helper. Right now I'm using the OffClockSaver SDT Weather
Fahrenheit and really like the amount of info it provides. But I don't
know where it's getting it's data from. I have SDT's plugin settings
on the server set up with the Weather Underground code for the personal
weather station I want data from, but I'm pretty sure I'm not getting
that data. How can I get the weather station of my choice?

I'm also looking for help using the SDT Sports screensaver. Again, on
the server, under plugins, I have the settings for SDT set up for four
professional sports teams - one from each sport. Yet when I select SDT
Sports, I get nothing. I have tried selecting it a couple of different
ways - from the Radio settings via SDT settings style and by making it
a config under Custom Clock settings. Both had the same result -
nothing on the screen. I also tried playing with the settings for SDT
Sports from Custom Clock Helper, but once there I'm not really sure
what needs to be done.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Do you see the correct data under "Extras/SuperDateTime" on the
Touch/Radio display ?

If the correct data is displayed in the "Extras/SuperDateTime" menu it
means that the issue is likely with the Custom Clock configuration, if
the data is not displayed in "Extras/SuperDateTime" menu it means that
there is probably something wrong with the Super Date Time plugin
configuration.

Also, I think it sometimes takes some time for SDT plugin to retrieve
the data, so try waiting a few minutes unless you have already done
so.

Are there any errors messages in the SBS/LMS server.log file ? You can
find it through SBS/LMS Settings/Advanced/Logging

Thanks for the diagnostic tips, Erland. I hadn't realized I could see
the data under Extras. And yes, the weather and sports data both show
up correctly under SuperDateTime's Extras listing, So that points to
Custom Clock. I'll have some time later today to play around with this
and see if I can come up with anything that works, or more specific
questions.

As for checking the server log, I find the following three lines (two
for Custom Clock and one for SuperDateTime) repeated a couple of times
a day:

[12-01-15 08:41:34.4820] Slim::Utils::Misc::msg (1304) Warning:
[08:41:34.4816] Use of qw(...) as parentheses is deprecated at
C:\ProgramData\Squeezebox\Cache\InstalledPlugins/Plugins/CustomClockHelper/StyleSettings.pm
line 167.

[12-01-15 08:41:34.4987] Slim::Utils::Misc::msg (1304) Warning:
[08:41:34.4984] Use of qw(...) as parentheses is deprecated at
C:\ProgramData\Squeezebox\Cache\InstalledPlugins/Plugins/CustomClockHelper/StyleSettings.pm
line 970.

[12-01-15 08:41:35.0123] Slim::Utils::Misc::msg (1304) Warning:
[08:41:35.0121] Using a hash as a reference is deprecated at
C:\ProgramData\Squeezebox\Cache\InstalledPlugins\Plugins\SuperDateTime\lib/Plugins/SuperDateTime/Plugin.pm
line 2170.

I'd still like to know what source OffClockSaver SDT Weather Fahrenheit
is using for its weather data. And if a Weather Underground Personal
Weather Station code is supported.

Thanks again for the help.

If you look at the configuration of it in Custom Clock Helper, you will
be able to see which SDT keywords that are used in the "sdttext" and
"stdicon" items. In my configuration it looks like it's using %t %v %z
%x, you can probably see in your SDT configuration which keywords that
represent the PWS you like to refer to, and then just reconfigure the
style through Custom Clock Helper. Remember that if you like the style
to change immediately you need to make sure the Custom Clock screen
saver is active and shown with the style while you are editing the
style through Custom Clock Helper settings page in SBS/LMS.

The SDT Sports style is configured to show currently active and
finished games. Are there any active and/or finished games when you are
looking at the screen in "Extras/SuperDateTime" ?

It's possible to change the configuration of the "sdtsporttext" and
"sdtsporticon" items through Custom Clock Helper if you want them to
look differently.

Let me know if you think SDT Sport style doesn't work as intended and
I'll try to take a look at it in my own setup.

As helpful as you have been, -this- was groundbreaking!! I now see how
the configuration works. I was changing variables in the SDT settings
and not in Custom Clock Helper. The weather data displayed is now
coming from the Personal Weather Station. Thanks -very- much for that.

Yes, active and completed games show up in Extras/SuperDateTime. At
this point SDT Sport still does not look/work as I imagined. I'm not
saying it's not as you intended. Now that I know how to configure it,
I will do so over the next day or two and see if I can get it to
display as I imagined. I guess the only pointer I'd need right now is
how to get either device to scroll through than one sport. From the
look of the config area on your Helper, it can only be one. Again, I'm
sure I'm wrong on this and just need a little push in the right
direction.

Thanks.

If I remember it correctly, it should show all sports you have defined
in the SDT configuration if you don't set the "sport" attribute on the
"sdtsporttext" items in Custom Clock Helper configuration. I think the
"SDT Sport" style should show all sports by default but I might
remember incorrectly.

Let me know if you don't get it to work and I'll take a look at it my
own setup.

You do indeed remember it correctly. Once I removed the sport attribute
in the Helper config, it started working as expected.

Thanks a lot Erland.
