iTunesUpdate and iTunes 7.5

If you're out there.... I thought you'd like to know that the latest
iTunes release appears incompatible with the update plugin.

I thought at first I had a corrupt library, but after several attempts
to get it working including reinstallation of SlimServer and the Update
plugin I have resorted to switching direct update off for a while so
that I can upload it later when I can find out what the problem is.

I've moved everything onto a new Vista system, including managing to
change the location of my music files and bring across my old itunes
library with all of my play history. As a result of startingon a new
disk with Vista I had to download the latest itunes (7.5).

I have done a clean fresh install of Slim 6.5.4 and iTunesUpdate 2.1.3,
and whether I use my current libarary or build a new one with just a
single album in, iTunesupdate fails.

According to the log it is 'unable to find the track' in the iTunes
library. Itunes itself has also stopped reporting that another program
is accessing the library like it used to when itunes update had been
woprking and you closed iTunes.

Seems like something significant in the interface you use to the
library may have changed in 7.5. Either that or my system is full of
squirrels.

Is anyone else seeing this? You're the first person to report it so
far.
Are there any errors in the SlimServer log? Anything about being unable
to open iTunes?

I'm still using 7.2, there's been no reason to upgrade so far, and I'm
still hoping they'll change their minds about fiddling with the default
sort order!

It was the log that reported the 'couldn't find ...' message. Thus.

I just switched on direct update to get this, and on the screen on my
PC it did open the itunes application (in fact it maximised it from the
system tray) but still reported that it couldn't launch it, or find the
track.

Perhaps having read this it's the 'failed to launch' rather than 'not
found' that's the bigger issue. It's having a go, just not getting
through.

I've downgraded to 7.4.3.1 (which was the version of iTunes I installed
when I did my Vista upgrade) and everything is fine. The latest version
of iTunesUpdate is installed on to 6.5.4 of Slimserver and all is
working fine.

I'd say there's definitely a reason to be scared of 7.5!

Something strange is going on. Itunes 7.4 has stopped working now,
with the same symptons, despite it working OK when I tested it last
night.

Odd. This may be a Vista issue - something to do with startup
permissions and adminsitartor settings - i'll need to read war and
peace that is the Vista issues sticky and check it out.

I've just fixed the problem by stopping and exiting both itunes and
slim and then restarting the slim tray tool and allowing your plugin to
open itunes and everything is OK.
