Discussion:
[SlimDevices: Plugins] Any way to listen to radio.com?

Forgive me if the answer to this is right in front of my face or
ridiculously obvious and simple.

Many of the internet stations I listen to are not through a service UI,
I add the url into favorites, and apparently the url directed many of
them through tune in. Like this one:

http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s29127&formats=aac,ogg,mp3,wmpro,wma,wmvoice&partnerId=16&serial=b0d075a8c4f17a16f486e1343b3eedf5

One of my local stations went dead, and I found out that they changed
their service to radio.com:

https://www.radio.com/

I looked at the mysqueezebox apps, ickstream services, plugins in on the
settings page for LMS, and did a "radio.com" search in this forum. I
cannot find any (apparent) way to listen to this service or extract the
url to listen to the stations.

Anyone know of a plugin, etc I can use to strean radio.com?

Jim

They block access from outside USA ... so, ideally, a USA-based techie
needs to chime in (I know ... could proxy from elsewhere).

Individual games seem to be available in UK via TuneIn. Is that what you
are after?
Activate the TuneIn App at MySqueezebox.com

not really. I spend spring through fall out of the area, so I don't have
access to the AM "over the air". This is the "sports talk" station, as
well as the broadcast station for the Bills (football) and Sabres
(hockey). Between listening to my hometown local radio statiosn, and
streaming my tv stations news via roku, it's my way of keeping in
touch.

So, it seems like radio.com is not available similar to tune in?

If you have the ShairTunes2 plugin enabled in LMS, you can AirPlay from
the radio.com app on an iDevice to an LMS player.

Thank you, Although I do have an ipad, I am more of an android guy, and
I really don't know anything about airplay other than it can be used
between devices and apple TV...That's the extend of it.

But, you got me thinking. I run LMS on a PC, and I would be ok running
radio.com in a browser on the PC, I just want to listen to it via the
various squeeze devices I have. Is there any way, plugin, etc that would
allow the stream from a browser be directed to LMS that is running on
the same PC? This would be a fine solution.

Not a plugin, but another program you can use to capture the PC sound
and stream to LMS:

Stream What You Hear ... http://www.streamwhatyouhear.com

May work for you ...

I was going to suggest SWYH earlier but you beat me to it. It’s a nice
simple piece of software and if you run LMS on Windows should work a
treat

ok, so far so good. I installed the windows app, and it sees the
LMS/players:

25330

but, that's where I am stuck. How to choose SWH on the player itself. I
go to the player, select "now playing" and it shows the last thing I
listened to (in this case an internet radio station). I went to my
music-> remote music libraries and nothing:

25331

I am not an IT guy, but maybe I need to install or enable one of the
upnp plugins? on the plugin tab there is one from Andy and one from
Philippe, and perhaps others in "additional repositories"?

I could hack and slash around a bit and end up with a solution, but it
might not be the best or most current, so perhaps one of you could point
me in a good direction?

Thanks so far, very promising

Don't attempt to stream direct to an SB player.

Look for Tools -> HTTP Live Streaming, make a note of URL then on LMS go
to Radio and Tune In URL - enter said URL

Excellent

Once you get it working there are 2 further options to consider.
Somewhere in the Settings you can set it to stream as PCM rather than
MP3 and when its all working as you want just add the plating "station"
to Favourites.

Thank you, I'm up and running, but this is going to be a bit clunky. I
originally pasted the url into a favorite:
25336

Then quickly realized and confirmed that the url would change each time
HTTP live streaming would be intitiated.

The result its it works, but the volume is quite low in comparison to
other sources. Perhaps a gain issue in the computer audio playback/swh
encoding. I suppose I could try to work through that

Right now I have a solution (thank you), but it involves, launching swh,
initiate http stream, copy url, open lms web control, paste url, each
time I want to listen.

Forgive my naivety, but is there no way to select the device that swh
recornizes, then launch "something" from that device?

Jim

PS - I am grateful that I have something that I can use in a crunch,
thank you again.

Pretty sure that in Settings you can define the port number that it will
use and with a static IP it will then always be the same URL.

As regards sound level some fiddling will be required.

EDIT. Exactly as Kidstypike has posted already.

Perfect...

Thank you both!

Now it's easy with the static IP and auto launch -> launch swyh, choose
the favorite, viola!

Now on to solving the volume issue, changing from swyh at a normal
listening level to, say my music library or an internet station, can be,
um "suprising"

If this is on the same machine as LMS then you can set it up to have
radio.com always start with the PC, always have SWYH running with the
same port and just use the Favourite in whatever player you want.

NOTE. You can mute the soundcard on the PC and it wont (shouldn't)
affect the stream.

You are going to ask how to start radio.com with the PC aren't you?

1. Create shortcut
2. Copy shortcut to startup folder

Here is a snippet from elsewhere (to save me typing)

Create Shortcuts
After copying a Web page’s URL, you can right-click your desktop, click
“New” and then click “Shortcut” to view the Create Shortcut window.
There you can paste your URL and give it a descriptive name by typing it
into the window’s text box. After you click “Next,” a new shortcut
appears on your desktop. You can double-click that shortcut to view it
in your browser.

Updating the Startup Folder
The fastest way to find the Startup folder is to right-click your Start
button and click “All Programs.” Windows shows you a list of
applications and folders. One of these folders is the Startup folder.
When you double-click it, the folder does not open. You can open the
Startup folder by right-clicking it and selecting “Explore.” Windows
Explorer launches and displays the folder’s contents in its window. Put
your shortcut into that folder by right-clicking the shortcut, selecting
“Copy” and then clicking an empty area in the Startup folder. When you
select “Paste,” Windows pastes a copy of the shortcut into the folder.

Considerations
When you shut down Windows and start it again, it automatically runs
your shortcut and launches your Web browser, which means you’ll never
have to launch your browser manually again. You can simply boot your
computer in the morning, walk away and return to a computer that has
your browser running and your Web page loaded. If you ever want the Web
page to stop loading automatically, return to the Startup menu,
right-click the shortcut you added and select “Delete.” Doing this will
not delete your desktop shortcut; the one in the Startup folder is only
a copy of the desktop shortcut.

actually, no, I have that under control, but thank you ;)

For my application, I am only looking to stream one radio.com station
that is a local station from my home town that is exclusive to radio.com
(unfortunately). Fortunately, it is a talk station, so no need to worry
about sound quality. I don't plan to look to radio.com for additional
stations when they are available so many other places.

(actually, I remember seeing a thread where a user was looking for a way
to stream amazon prime, but a plugin couldn't be written because of api
availability...this might be a solution for that...)

I think for me, I'll have SWYH run at startup (with LMS), and then just
have a shortcut to the ***@radio.com link on my desktop, as it
autoplays when launched. So my process will be to click the shortcut,
select swyh from the favorites on the player.

This way, on boot, I don't have the station autoplay through the
speakers.

On to the volume issue...thanks again.

Jim

I remember suggesting it in that thread. Control is the issue for Amazon
Prime - you'd need the PC to do that - whereas in your scenario if you
can solve the volume issue its almost plug and play.

I see you use Pi’s. I have built one of these -
https://iotsblog.wordpress.com/2016/02/25/wireless-streaming-vinyl-to-squeezebox/
- which you will immediately realise is even more flexible than SWYH.
I used a Behringer UCA202 into the tape sockets on my amp. It will let
me stream anything that’s output to the amp.
I use it to stream vinyl in the main but also CDs, Tuner etc and
thinking about adding an Amazon Echo as I have Prime for business
reasons.
I use the same Behringer to rip my Vinyl - just plug in to my laptop
instead of the Pi

Hi,

yea, but it seems like it's more than that at play. I have everything at
100% including swyh's slider, and the volume is still very low in
relation to the rest of the players sources (internet radio, flac
files).

I am suspecting (without any real proof or insight) that is is in the
encoding of swyh, or perhaps some windows/soundcard setting/adjustment.
I say that because the system sounds (like the "doink" when opening the
mixer) come through quite loud, but by comparison to another source? not
sure.

I don't really understand the mechanism of swyh, where it gets its data
from and what it does to it before it creates the stream.

I had a thought of using two computers on the same network, matching the
audio volume, run swyh on one, then play the url on the other, and see
if there is a difference. Maybe that idea is flawed, I haven't really
thought it through, but with one computer at this location, its moot ;)

I'll spend a little time tonight digging into it.

Thanks for the input.

I don't actually use SWYH, I (re)-installed it just to hopefully help
out :)

ATM I have it streaming from my study pi/hifiberry DAC via the aux in of
a half decent BT speaker, it's loud, very loud.

this is what I see in the volume mixer:
25340

I take this to mean that SWYH, and Chrome are turned up to full volume.
I have played around with this and turning either down will in turn
lower the volume on the SB player after a bit of latency.

To me it seems that the browser has alot of gain in the signal, in that
you can crank up the PC speakers as loud as you can tolerate the
distortion. but then SWYH converts the stream, then, when received by
LMS, then to the player, the gain is considerably lower than other
streams the player receives from LMS (library, internet music).

After looking at this further, it seems radio.com works similar to
iheartradio in how it handles streams. I did the following to get a
streaming URL I could play in LMS. (I used Firefox in Windows.)

- Go to radio.com and start playing a station.
- Press Ctrl-A to select all the text.
- With the text selected, right-click and select "View Selection
Source".
- Look for a streaming URL in the Selection Source text (see the example
below).
- Copy this URL and paste it in the "Tune In URL" box in LMS.

For example, when I did this for WGR, I found this URL in the Selection
Source text and could play it in LMS:
http://stream.abacast.net/direct/entercom-wgramaac-64?Source=radiocomWeb&tgt=cbslocalplayer

As with the iheartradio streaming URLs, there's no way of knowing how
long it will stay valid, but it's working for now.

Your link worked perfectly, thank you. Volume matches other radio
stations when played on sb players. It is similar to what I have done in
the past with stations, like Pearadio, Jukebox Radio2, etc, where I go
to the site, look for a "listen button" and try to extract a URL.

However, I could not find a way to do this on radio.com. Your method
obviously worked, but, I could not recreate it. I tried both chrome and
IE. When I ctrl-A, then righ click, this is what I get:

25345

Of interest is the "sorry something went wrong...." message in the
"search" selection. Maybe that is why the selection didn't come up? The
machine I am running at this location is an old machine, 4MB memory (I
think) which is the max on this motherboard, and perhaps I have a memory
issue (which often happens when I have a few programs open and about 30
tabs in chrome :) )

I'd be interested in trying to recreate what you did, in case they
change the url and I have to go find it again.

I'll also continue to try to find the volume issue with swyh as time
permits

Given that all CBS and Entercom stations will be removed from TuneIn and
only officially be available via radio.com (owned by CBS/Entercom) then
this is a more generic issue.

Thanks. I tried a few extension in chrome without much luck, so I
downloaded firefox (which I have used on and off over the years), and
your technique worked. In the extensive source I tried to imagine
looking through it for something that looks for a streaming link. So, I
just did a find on "http://" and "stream" and finally both together. But
I that another station under radio.com wast not consistent in url
naming.

I'm can read source structure, but the last coding I did was "C" without
the "++". :rolleyes:Now that I have dated myself.....

But, in the end, I did not start out trying to solve radio.com through
SB devices, rather to get reconnected with the station. Thanks to all
for helped me with that.

can you tell me how you found or developed the links you noted above?

Try this link:

http://playerservices.streamtheworld.com/api/livestream-redirect/WGRAM.mp3

Looks like they're streaming in MP3 rather than AAC.

George, Mattb, thank you. Mattb's mp3 url worked for a bit, then not.
George's acc URL works now, but for how long?

Question - how are you guys finding, decoding source, extracting, etc to
find these links? I'd like to be able to do it myself, the old "give a

Thanks again...

Hello, most of my radio stations, ie sports are on radio.com; All of
streaming CBS is now RAdio.com. Obviously they are extreme proprietary
and have for some reason made it very difficult to get cbs stations.
Why they dont want people listening I have no idea. Nonetheless, I know
there are web/app developers for logictech squeezebox. Isnt there some
developer or administrator that can simply add RADIO.COM to the apps on
the squeezeboex?

Sorry for the longwinded question, but its quite annoying to me.
Thanks.

Howdy,

I have been trying to figure out how to stream WWJ AM 950 out of Detroit
Michigan. I am fairly computer literate but am stuck.

I follow the getting the stream info: <script id="streamtheworld"
src="//playerservices.live.streamtheworld.com/api/idsync.js?station=WWJAM"
type="text/javascript"></script>

but I notice in front of all the stations you posted there is an id
number "16693.live.streamtheworld.com/KCBSAMDIALUP.mp3"

Where does this come from? I know I am missing something.....just can
not figure out what.

Thanks,

Figured it out, already saved as playlist and Touch and Squeezebox radio
streaming just fine......but I agree a plugin for Radio.com would be
nice but WAY beyond me.;)

I thought I would bump this thread in case someone stmbles onto it in a
search.

For WGRAM (buffalo sports talk) the stream that George_C provided worked
for quite a while but was dead this morning. I tried the "provisioning"
URL from the thread that matt b suggested, and it's up and running
again:

http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/WGRAMAAC.pls

They must be jumbling the streams from time to time to thwart listening
on other than the radio.com app? Must be the advertising and marketing $
through the app is more valuable than the companies that pay to
advertise over the air. It seems goofy, I would think the idea of a
radio station is to promote listening.

Anyhow, I am content with having to find a working stream from time to
time, and have radio.com as a backup should they do something as
diabolical as changing their streams at game time

Thanks to all that know allot more about this IT stuff than I do....:D

That is why I said "Giving the URL to the streamtheworld .pls should

The contents of the .pls are liable to change - i.e. the stream itself 0
but the playlist file (.pls) should always be right (as long as they
stay with StreamTheWorld as their provider and STW do not change how
things work and the underlying stream does not become unplayable on the

Thanks for the repost. Now I understand your previous post better. I
didn't realize the significance of a pls vs a static url until your
comment and reading back through the thread. I still don't understand
the "under the hood" mechanics behind how the pls can be dynamic, but no
matter. My strength is electronics, not IT. Sometimes it's best to say
"ok, it's working again"

I appreciate you pointing out that the pls route is bound to be more
reliable, thanks.

Think of the .pls as a web page that contains some links.
The contents of it can be changed by the streaming provider for various
reasons (e.g. perhaps one server is heavily loaded so they want to
direct the next listener to a different one) - but if you always start
from there then you get the up-to-date links that are in it.
LMS (and other players) knows how to parse the returned contents of the
.pls - but if you ask the player what it is playing it will usually show
you the discovered stream URL that was inside the .pls

Perfect. Very clear description. Thanks for taking the time. I learned
something today, AND restored a lost station, AND it's bound to be more
reliable! ;)

Thank you Michael!

It worked perfectly, installation was very clear just by scrolling
(installed it via a boom).

Even though the previous (single station vs playlist) solution was still
working, I appreciate the effort you put in here (and others will as
well). I many explore other stations on Radio.com now that's it an app.

Many thanks again...

Just checked this thread again.... Try:
http://18073.live.streamtheworld.com/WGRAM.mp3

How did I identify it:

In this case:-

- Opened WGR's page: https://wgr550.radio.com/
- Clicked on "Listen" in top right corner
- Clicked on "Listen Live" . This opens
https://player.radio.com/listen/station/wgr-sports
- Right click anywhere (??) on the page and choose "Inspect" . A new
window will open on the right with a lot of code. [I'm using Chrome,
but there are probably equivalent features in other browsers].
- Select "Network" from the top menu of the window on the right.
"Media" will be selected in the second row below the top level
(containing the selected "Network")
- Press the Play button visible in the window on the left
(https://player.radio.com/listen/station/wgr-sports).
- Immediately the audio URL will appear under "Name" in the left
column of the right window.
- Select that URL. Right click on it, Select "Copy", the "Copy link
address" from the submenu.
- Paste the link in your browser (or better still in a media player
like vlc.com). The copied link address is
https://17473.live.streamtheworld.com/WGRAM.mp3?SRC=CBS&DIST=CBS&TGT=cbslocalplayer&tdsdk=js-2.9&pname=TDSdk&pversion=2.9&banners=none%2Cnone%2Cnone&sbmid=b99879d7-df7a-4213-d7b5-ab050f315d34

- This will play. But all that is needed is the first part ending
before the "?".
- This leaves https://17473.live.streamtheworld.com/WGRAM.mp3 This
will play in browsers and media players.
- For adding this URL as a favorite in Logitech Media Server, remove
the 's' from https, and you get
http://18073.live.streamtheworld.com/WGRAM.mp3

Try this process with WGR, or other radio website. I don't promise that
it will always work, as different problems require different
solutions..

Giving the URL to the streamtheworld .pls should work because LMS parses
the returned contents.
